I’m Going Out!

I’M GOING OUT to fish,” Simon Peter told them. John 21:3

2 tips for every non-evangelist on how to ‘Go out’ and be a witness for Christ:

1. YOUyou are going out.  Not a philosophy, not a ‘mission’, YOU – our life speaks and is always being read, lets make it a great read!

You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. 2 Corinthians 3:2

Our lives are always under the spotlight, so:

a. Be salt not pepper.  Pepper makes people sneeze – don’t make people feel allergic to you! Don’t be weird or annoying around people; ask questions, be interested in people, don’t be the one who never stops talking about themselves.  Salt flavours – whatever you do well is that which flavours (caring, wisdom, leading) – do it fully and naturally around people. Like people (the cleaner, the director, the high and low in society). Be salt not pepper!

b. Be a light not a light switch – a light just is, it simply shines, it is light! A light switch flicks in and out of light & dark, its on one minute, off the next.  Stay light, don’t flick in and out of unpredictable moods, or have one foot in the camp of light and one in the camp of dark.  Keep your light on by contact with the Light in His presence.

c. Dress up, not down.  We should always go out dressed, not undressed.  Don’t bare all your problems to everyone you meet.  Don’t join in the negative talk of the crowd.  Stand out by how you dress:

Clothe yourself in honor  Job 40:10
Clothe yourself with splendor  Psalm 45:3
Clothe yourself with strength  Isaiah 51:9
Put on the armour of light  Romans 13:12
Put on Jesus Christ  Romans 13:14
Put on the new man  Ephesians 4:24
Put on the whole armour of God  Ephesians 6:11
Put on kindness, longsuffering, love …  Colossians 3:12-14

“I’m Going Out!”  You are the invitation card

2. BRINGING THEM HOME – After Peter had been out to fish, Jesus said to them: “bring the fish to me”

When surveyed 8 out of 10 people said they would come to Church if they were asked.  Let your life example be followed by an invitation to something that brings them closer to Christ – a Connect Group meeting, a Church service or another specific Church event.

Easy – even a non-evangelist can help people come to Christ. Have a great week. See you in Church.
