The Power of Following

Jesus told us not simply to go and make converts but to go and make disciples.  A disciple is a follower.  Paul here reiterates the same concept directly to the Christians in Colosse. There is a huge revolution that takes place in your heart when you first receive Christ, the old life is gone, the new has come, salvation becomes ours.  However, for a revolution to continue we must continue to follow. Two things are needed in order for us to be following:  we need a leader (otherwise who or what are we following) and we need to take steps (otherwise we fall behind and can no longer see the leader). WE NEED A LEADER Paul said "Imitate me as I imitate Christ".  That means that whilst disciplers are extremely important in our lives, their role is still to help us imitate Christ,

A Disciple Serves

1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. This is exactly what Timothy was - AN EXAMPLE.  In Philippians 2:20 Paul tells us that he has very few examples of a servant, yet Timothy is one that stands out.  He says this in the same passage he gives us the all-time example of a servant, Jesus: Philippians 2:5-8 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,  6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,  7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.  8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cro
