The Great Power of Fasting — Ps Phil Pringle

Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you. Hosea 10:12 The secret to a major breakthrough in any circumstance is to first breakthrough in prayer. When we add fasting to our praying we increase our effectiveness many times over. There is not a preacher, a pastor, or a group of Christians throughout all Christian history who have achieved some great thing for God that have been able to say, prayer was not part of it. Not just ordinary prayer either, but prayer that breaks through. Prayer and fasting bring breakthroughs that nothing else can. Even Jesus told his disciples some things cannot be achieved without prayer and fasting, (Mark 9:29). Saying a prayer is

Fast Pizza more than Facebook!

A Great reminder on the importance of fasting, by Susan Gregory from The Daniel Cure Biblical fasting is always about abstaining from food — not refraining from activities such as using Facebook or watching television. Biblical fasting means refraining from all food or certain foods for a spiritual purpose for a limited period of time. The Hebrew word for “fast” is tsôwm (twoom), which means “to cover the mouth.” The Greek word for fast is nēstěuō (nace-tyoo-o), which means “to abstain from food.” A fast is a highly focused period of time when we examine our lives and seek to align ourselves with the ways of God. Go Fast!

Let's talk about fasting for a moment. Fasting is designed to refocus our life on God. It will empty you of you and fill you with Him. There is a power in fasting even aside from prayer. However, combined with an increased level of prayer, which is really its purpose, fasting will speed your growth, wisdom and fruitfulness in God. Obstacles come down as we realign ourselves to Him. Fasting is an incredibly healthy spiritual discipline, bringing great benefit with it. Instances of the use of fasting in scripture: - for humility I humbled myself with fasting Psalm 35:13 - making important decisions As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Acts 13:2 - releasing ministers So a...

The Final Countdown …

On October 31 the people assembled again, and this time they fasted ... Nehemiah 9:1 In the book of Nehemiah we see the process of the people of God returning from captivity and reestablishing themselves with God. Fasting brings us clearly before God. Times of refreshing come as you consecrate yourself to the Lord and find He breaks off those loose ends that hang around. You are being shaped and revived for the next season of your life. What did these returning people of God do? - The first thing they did as a nation was to come around the Word of God. They read, but they also allowed it to speak. They fell to the ground in awe of its message and of God. - As they had need they sought to be purified by the Lord. - They also created shelters, spaces of encounters - setting a...
