Teach me how to pray

I was asked this morning by someone after one of our Church services “How do I pray?”  What a great question. Jesus was asked the same question so I gave him the same response … Something like this:

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
So He said to them, When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.  Luke 11:1-4

Start your prayer in PRAISE. Thanksgiving and praise open up a way into the presence of God. Praise honours the position of God in your life.

Pray His Kingdom come and His will be done. INTERCESSION is where you stand in a place on behalf of others as we pray for His will. Whats His will? It is His will that the people you know get saved, the sick get healed, peace reigns where there is unrest, His Church is established.

Pray for your needs, REQUESTS, ‘our daily bread’. Your work, family, finances and other immediate needs in your world.

Finally seek God for an ever increasing RENEWAL in your life. Repentance brings renewal (Acts 3:19), forgiving others releases burdens and time in His presence will ensure you are less vulnerable to temptation.

Now do this everyday and you’ll find no weapon formed against you will prosper and you will live your best life for Him.  Praying for you!
