Come on, and the rest!

You prepare a TABLE before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; MY CUP RUNS OVER. Psalm 23:5

In the Valley
An incredible verse right in the middle of the valley of the shadow of death.  At the worst moment of the year, at a crisis point of the week, when the huge contract has been lost to a competitor, when a family member has been terminally diagnosed … God makes a huge promise.  He provides a banquet and an overflowing cup.  “Right there I am with you”  How is He with us?

Around the Table
Fellowship around the table, eating with good friends is one of the greatest defenses against the enemy.  It reminds us of the goodness of God in times of crisis.  It brings light into the soul.  God builds His Church full of people we can do life with.  He gives us people we can fellowship around the table with – the richest of all experiences in life.

An overflowing Cup
An incredibly important principle of hospitality is generosity.  Make sure the cup runs over – don’t serve or give just enough – provide more than enough … more than enough means you can offer a second serving and still have enough to freeze for tomorrow.  To some this ‘extravagance’ sounds so wasteful; yet excess always speaks of value.

When Jesus fed the 5000 there were 12 baskets left over. When a coin was found in the mouth of a fish Jesus paid Peter’s tax for him as well as His own.  The whole of creation screams the abundance of God.  God never does anything by halves!

I’ll let The Message interpretation of verse 5 speak for itself :

You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing.

Have someone over this week. Bring someone to Church at the weekend.  Give your all to your Connect group. Doing life together!
