Jesus only?

It is post-Easter. Jesus has risen. He has met with his disciples a couple of times.

In the absence of knowing what next, the disciples keep a semblance of a routine going. Always a good thing when your world is upside down, to remain consistent in healthy routines. 7 go fishing.

They catch nothing all night! Not good when half the crew are experienced fisherman.

Someone calls from the shore telling them to cast the net out on the other side and try again. Curious, tired, bewildered, they do it. They catch a catch of a lifetime. The nets are bursting. Fish jumping all over the place.

But get this. See what Peter does.

... they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. John 21:6,7

A miracle is jumping all around him, yet Peter simply wants to get to Jesus!

When God moves, there tends to be a lot going on!  Yet Peter’s first response was to actively give his attention to Jesus.

We cannot afford to get so enamoured by what God is doing that we forget it’s all about Jesus.  On the other hand we don’t ignore what God is doing, we are so thankful it becomes a trigger for us to press into and delight in Jesus.

Easy to think that joy, freedom, breakthroughs are where it’s at, surely this is what God wants us to be experiencing. It is! But don’t forget it’s the fruit of a life centred on Jesus.

If we are to sustain a move of God, we need to stay constantly enamoured by Him, more than the move, without any less joy in or appreciation of what God is doing.

Yes, still Jesus only.
